As renters, it’s sometimes hard to know what minor renovations are worth spending money on and which aren’t. Replacing that annoying leaky faucet yourself? Probably a bad idea. But more minor, cosmetic changes in spaces you spend a lot of time in? They’re usually worth it. When we decided to make over our tiny third-floor patio with Article outdoor furniture, I was confident that the pieces themselves would be gorgeous. Jake and I have Article pieces throughout our house and have always been pleased with the quality and longevity of items like our beloved Sven sofa (we have it in leather and velvet). Still, I had absolutely no idea how to put together an outdoor space, or how outdoor furniture holds up at all.
In exchange for social promotion, Article gifted us outdoor patio furniture and I designed the space around that as well as a colorful, weatherproof rug from Amazon (same brand, same pattern rug linked here — and on sale). While waiting for the pieces to arrive, Jake and I (OK, mostly Jake) sanded and painted the deck and hung string lights and plants. Once the Article pieces did arrive, it was like Christmas morning. I had been waiting to see it all come together for three months, and finally, it had fallen into place. I did all of the furniture assembly myself and though it took me quite a while, it was more than doable (But also: do I ever want to see an Allen wrench again? No.). The Sora chairs are the highlight of the space (we opted for four of them instead of love seats or couches). themselves are sturdy, comfortable, and surprisingly spacious. The cushions are water resistant so handle the occasional sprinkle pretty well, but we bring them in for heavy storms (we’re planning to buy covers sometime soon to make our lives easier). We rounded out the area with two Gera side tables (they nest together — perfect for a small space), a Hendry side table in green (my personal favorite piece), a Solina terazzo stool, and an Olara Saffron Ottoman.
From drinking my morning coffee to having an evening glass of wine (to working outdoors in between), the new outdoor space brings me so much joy. We put a lot of time and effort into designing the space and sprucing it up and it was worth every single second. Big thanks to Article for sponsoring the transformatino.
